We stayed here for our anniversary, our second visit, the last being 6 years ago. It's by far my favourite place near Sheffield, Immaculately clean and well maintained while keeping all of its history, every room has something to tell about its historical links to the trade unions and workers it was used by. The food is mostly grown on site so is seasonal and EXCELLENT! Rooms are warm and comfortable and the beds comfortable. The staff are friendly and hard working. All in all it's an absolute gem of a hotel and a refreshing piece of genuine nostalgia in a frantic modern world. I hope this place stays like this forever.

Extremely beautiful building with interesting history. Formerly a rich man's family home, it is now owned by various trade unions who use it as a conference centre/hotel. Had it not been bought by the unions, doubtless it would have been destroyed, like so many great historical houses. The breakfast was very good and the staff we had contact with (receptionist and breakfast host) were superb. The bathroom was quite spacious, had a bathtub and shower with lashings of hot water. Very clean. It would seem to me that the building is undergoing (and needs) upgrading and improvement. The public rooms looked stunning and the breakfast room was spartan but crisp. With a little more TLC and provision of bigger, more comfortable beds and pillows this could become my favourite hotel in South Yorkshire.
