Lovely space, very comfortable, relaxing and clean. The staff were helpful and nice - Olinda and Eva were brilliant during our stay. Great experience overall and good value for money - it felt like a taste of Japan. I wish I could have brought the yukata home. I tried the hot stone massage, which was expertly done by a wonderful therapist (Alexandra). The spa was cozy and relaxing. Finally, the meals were beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. We will come back for sure!

Good: Japanese toilet to play around with. Bad: heavily overpriced. The location is great: a narrow 3-floor building right in the center. Very authentic historical, therefore also waist water issues, but since it apparently is a known problem, we were assured that the smell "goes away immediatly with product and by rinsing with water". Only that we wouldn't knew this in advance. So we didn't call staff the night when the smell started to spread. In the morning we were offered another room - however - we left the hotel one night early (see below) and did not take the offer. Note, that there is no refund policy in such cases. We came here for a Japanese style birthday weekend. I was hoping to be able to spend more than only sleeping time in the hotel, that's why I accepted the high price. Unfortunately, I couldn't feel the Japanese vibe and comfort in the room. OK, as in Japan, the interior was small with steep stairs (3rd floor) and decorated Japanese, but that didn't make it for me. For anything Japanese beyond the room you had to pay extra (17€/px for Japanese breakfast, 15€/px/30min for sauna and roughly 1€/min massage). The included breakfast wasn't impressive either: coffee from thermos jug, unfresh croissants and pastel de nata from the supermarkt still packed in aluminium cups. The eating room has an open kitchen, where staff was preparing Japanese breakfast with the suction head turned on being noisy for quite a time. So, not what I had expected for 130€/night in low season with no empathy for insatisfactory guest experience (read: no refund policy).

This hotel is a real gem in the heart of Viseu. The spa area is amazing, we loved it. If you want a Japanese breakfast, you need to book it in advance. But we were unlucky, because they do not serve it on Mondays. The continental breakfast we ordered was simply superb, with a lot of choice. Overall, we felt like VIPs during our stay. When we checked out, we met the owner of the hotel, and she told us her inspiring story about opening this place. We wish this place and its owners great success and prosperity!

The location is great, right in the heart of the small city of Viseu. The staff was amazing and, overall, we had a great time! We chose to have the japanese breakfast and it was very delicious. The access to the sauna and jacuzzi made the trip much more comfortable. I do believe it is a queer-friendly space to enjoy a bit of a japanese tradition whilst being away from the movement and city noises. Highly recommend!

Everything! The serene atmosphere as you step in, the quirky Japanese traditions, the insanely comfortable beds, the spa facilites (basic but did the trick), the accommodating friendly staff. It was the sanctuary I needed during a stressful time. Can't wait to go back

This was an "experience" for me and an amazing one. The moment I stepped in, I felt that this place was a part of Japanese culture. The staff was very kind, thoughtful and respectful: respectful to guests and to the Ryokan culture as a whole. The smell of tatami in the rooms, the futon I slept on and the Yukata we were provided with were all spot-on and ensured a smooth transition from traditional Viseu streets to Japan in our minds. The place was shining clean (I could even use the Japanese word ~pika pika~ to describe how clean!) and the breakfast (the usual one that's included in the price) had a very nice freshly-made omelette and Castella cake (yummy and fluffy!). We didn't order lunch or dinner so I won't be able to comment on that even though I have no doubts it would be amazing as well! The food area and the terrace at night time was very peaceful, dimly-lit and cosy which made the perfect atmosphere to experiment some sake (I mean Nihon Shuu) of which they had many different types! I need to say that I had high expectations of this place and I am very pleased to write that it had satisfied my mind, my body and my soul even over a two-day stay. Thank you, Viseu Ryokan family!

Such a jewel!!! I loved the concept and execution, it really feels you are in Ryokan in Japan. Everything is super clean, beds are very comfy, we ordered evening meal and it was just magical. Service and curtesy of staff is what really make this place special. you feel welcome and at home. Location is also top. Highly recommend
