This beautiful property, tiled outside, is very centrally situated in an historic small town, on a pedestrian cobbled street, just 45 mins from the airport, and close to stunning, long, sandy beaches with a forest and farming backdrop further North (don't miss Praia da Arda and the surfers). We enjoyed the Museum of Decorative Arts across the road, the beautiful square Praça da República, the 16th century Misericórdia building (do not miss this with its tiles and rococo gilded artwork) and the Romanesque Cathedral nearby. Wonderful restaurant on the harbour, Tapas restaurant in town, and Indian restaurant near hotel. The house has beautiful ceilings and common spaces and is very quiet. The breakfast on the terrace overlooking the garden was exceptional. Best of all was the warmth and kindness of the owners and the staff members, one of whom is an accomplished artist. Nothing was too much trouble! Airport transfer about Eur75.

Breakfast was fabulous. Location, exceptional. Right in the middle of the town. Owner and her husband spoke little English but other employee was always accessable and very helpful. Much history to the home and the staff shared that with much pride. We took an UBER from Porto but then took the bus back to the Porto Airport. Very dooable. We loved the city of Viana do Castelo. Such a relaxing and more Portuguese place that Porto. Lots to see.

An historic home in Viana do Costelo where one can experience life living in a mansion with a huge dining room, Great Room, and rich and luxurious sleeping accommodations. The breakfast is wonderful and prepared to any specific requests. The host (Tiago) was extremely helpful with a tour of the historic home and recommendations for sights and dining in the area. The history of the Casa and Manuel Espregueira e Oliveira is well displayed in the reading room which is like a museum of the highest order, and the Casa has artwork and other features that made it seem like one is living the life of what is otherwise displayed in local museums. A wonderful and rich experience. A must do if possible.
