A perfect place to switch off an recharge one's battery in a rural setting in Finland. The food and products are all locally made. The room was clean and well-kept.

Staying at the "new" Valamo monastery is a trip into another space and time. The industry and enterprise of the Monks and their ecosystem of volunteers is evident and impressive. The visitor is present in their world. There is a very good guided tour, and even though Monks are not known for being talkative, if you are lucky it is possible to have a meaningful conversation. It is possible to begin to understand the structure of the religion. A wonderful, memorable experience.
