It was peaceful away from the busy and noisy main town, surrounded by big trees and plantations. The Host was really good and served delicious homemade breakfast and Dinner, the property was maintained clean.

EVERYTHING! The most beautiful owner and her gorgeous kids, made me feel at home straight away. The hostel is lovely, with yoga sessions and deliciiious meals available! Judith is a wonderful, kind, bubbly person who’s energy and hospitality made this hostel/homestay my favourite in the whole of Sri Lanka. The location is a good walk out of the centre (maybe 25 mins) , but grabs/tuktuks are cheap and available!

This is a very different type of hostel. You really feel like you are living in a family home with lots of interaction with the children. It was a welcome change in my trip. This is where you want to stay if you are looking for a more authentic Sri Lankan experience rather than a Bali copy. Also if you want an authentic meal - head to the old temple, at the entrance there is a wonderful restaurant called Kamala. The signs are not in English but the couple who run it speak basic English and were super friendly. Large lunch was only $550!

Judith is the absolute best host! I was traveling alone during low season, resulting in not meeting a lot of people. She welcomed me with open arms and invited me to a girls night with her friends, which was so much fun. She also made sure I had absolutely everything I needed. I rented a bicycle for a fair price and it was ready in just a few minutes. The rooms were very clean and even had mosquito nets. The complementary breakfast was absolutely delicious. Judith, you are a great cook! I wish I could’ve stayed longer. If I’m ever back in Sri Lanka, I’m definitely going back to this place!

Judie with her lovely family and staff was the best part of my stay in Unawatuna. I started my Sri Lanka trip with a nice cooking class and it was the best dish & taste I’ve ever had so far. The bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean. It’s also a quit location surrounded by tress. I extended for two more nights to see some more near this place like Galle and Ahangama.

We extended our stay there because we enjoyed the place so much! The family is lovely and trying their best to meet your desires! We did a wonderful super delicious cooking class with Judi, rented scooter and bicycles to explore Galle, beaches around and ahangama. So this place is perfect if you’re looking for a chilled family vibe base to explore the area. They also installed AC which should make it much more pleasant during the nights.

I had a great stay with Judie & family. Great location out of the main city if you want a more chill/relaxed stay. Walkable to turtle beach or can hire a bicycle to main unawatuna town. Amazing breakfast, Judie is a great cook, is friendly and makes you feel like family. Hope to visit in future :) Say hi to Leo & Levi for me too!
