The reviews are indeed right. This is hands down the best place to stay in Ukulhaas. You get a very good hotel as well as interaction with locals around the island, instead of being limited to an island resort with nothing else beyond the luxury resort. Stayed 7 days, and my teens loved the freedom of roaming about the island, going on excursions and coming back to their very comfortable hotel each day. Accommodation: Ranthari is quite new, featuring uncluttered Scandinavian design with some tropical touches. It is very clean, and beach-facing; at 6 storeys, it is the tallest building on the island, so u get great beach views. The tourist beach is literally 1 min from the hotel. All other current accommodation on Ukulhas is in the range of 1-3 storey guesthouses / inns. Island Suite on 4th floor with balcony was spacious, with 2 comfortable Queen size beds, and a balcony with fantastic view of the ocean and sunrise/sunsets. Spacious bathroom too. Hotel food: definitely the best Western food on the island. Good range for lunch/ dinner and nice spread for breakfast. We booked half board, which was just nice, so we had freedom to visit some local joints for lunch too. L'aragosta and Chef the Indian Restaurant were the 2 best. Snorkelling gear (masks and fins) freely available for guests at the reception was a nice touch. Excursions: the hotel provides some activities (mantarays, dolphin watching etc), and ties up with an excellent dive shop (Dive Ukulhas) for scuba diving. Staff: Saved the best for last- they are a gem. Owners Ingvar (from Norway) and Steven (from Malaysia), Chief of staff Mahinda, restaurant waiters (Olamgir and others), are passionate and dedicated. Their service easily matches the standard of the various 4 - 5 star hotels that I have stayed at in Europe and Asia over the years. Would strongly recommend the Ranthari for an unforgettable stay in the Maldives.

Wonderful and caring hosts, very friendly and helpful international staff; Ingvar, the Norwegian co-owner, personally takes his guests on an unforgettable „meet the manta ray-tour“, good snorkelling equipment freely available. Perfect roof top swimming pool from where one can enjoy a Hollywood-type sunset. Nice and tasty breakfast, good food for reasonable prices Well organised transfer by speed boat from Male International Airport to local Ukulhas port, from there personal pick up to the nearby hotel.
