Away from the madding crowd, we were warmly welcomed by Sam. The rooms were lovely and warmly furnished with very clean bathrooms and a powerful shower, Nice tea and little snacks in the room served in eye-catching mugs . Generous breakfast portions with a variety of choices.

Appears the property has been fully renovated to a very high standard in recent years whilst keeping the historical features. Instant feeling of a warm, friendly environment with high standard comfortable rooms

Very comfortable rooms, really welcoming to the dog, even left him a ball and some treats. Taps to wash paws, area to toilet dog. Staff were really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Lots of extra treats and little touches to make stay comfortable. We will be back. Breakfast was superb. Thank you .

A wonderful pub and hotel with the most attentive staff. Everything is done with attention to detail and they’ve managed to combine old charm with modern comfort. The location is great for both walking the hills but also walking into Ambleside when you don’t want something too exhausting. We were planning on going somewhere else for dinner but ended up eating at the hotel every night - because there’s really nothing that makes you want to leave!

The food was amazing for us and our dog we took with us. Having a dog menu just added to overall amazing experience. The staff couldn't do enough for us.

We stayed here for the first time in 15 years during which time it has both burned down and been rebuilt. It was just as good as we remembered. Room was lovely - spacious, clean and comfortable. Food was excellent - we had both dinner and breakfast. Every member of staff should be commended for their attitude - all were very helpful and friendly. Beer choice good.
