The fine print
Access is only by boat or by plane. Due to this location, a combination of land transportation and boat ride is required to get to Mawamba Lodge,The Lodge offers daily boat transfers from the dock in Guapiles at an additional cost. Otherwise guests may arrange their own boat transportation but should let Mawamba Lodge their expected arrival time at least 3 days before arrival. Please contact the property to confirm your transportation method and inquire about any additional information.

We were 4 people staying in December, outside of turtle season and at the end of the wet season. Location was good and we saw toucans, sloths and green macaws on the 1km path to tortuguera. The caribbean beach is wild, with driftwood and turtle nests complete with eggshells from the hatchlings. Breakfast was excellent and our rooms were clean, spacious and cool with hammocks on the verandas. The rooms are also built with screen windows to keep the insects out while letting the jungle +surf noises in. Light sleepers beware! There is free drinking water available 24/7 at the pool area, important as tap water is salty at tortuguera. The hotel is a bit too 4star for our tastes but it could be that the high service levels and prices are exactly what you want. The boat ride in from La pavona is great too.

Amazing garden, full of wild life, close to the beach (even if you can’t swim). Nice detached bungalow very spacious. Nice pool area and restaurant

+ remote area (a special and unique trip to get there by boat) + very nice garden + good variety of activities + we highly recommend a canoe tour at 5:30 am! we had an amazing guide and were able to see some animals (caiman, basilisk, iguana and lots of birds) in their natural habitat.
