Beautifull villa, Claes and his wife has really made this a paradise. All rooms are decorated with so much care, the staf cooks heavenly ( the home baked Bread was soooo good). Cleas is so friendly swedish, we went Cayaking the mangroves, and Cleas which was really nice . The small village is a fisher village had a nice ruim of a mosque . Highly recommend is you want to be away from the crowds.

Wonderful stay during New years Eve! It was like visiting good friends. Klaes and Haley have realised their project in the neighbourhood of of the fisheries village Kwale, 20 km north to Tanga. Service and food was marvelleous! Good relationship between Matalai and the villagers! Nice Mmarine excursions to the mangroves and snorkelling opportunities to the nearby reefs...

This property is a self-contained oasis on the beachfront. The hosts Claus & Halle are very hospitable and welcoming. They helped us with advice on local travel and we were able to join a beautiful snorkelling trip on their dhow. All the food is fresh and locally caught or made by Halle and the local chefs, even the coffee is freshly roasted and ground. Decor is lovely and reflects the hosts’ lifetime of work & travel in Africa.

Awesome host, lovely garden, quiet place to relax and to do yoga, delicious food! There was also the possibility to do kajaking and snorkeling.

The whole area and each accommodation was arranged with tiny lovely surprises. From everywhere, you have a breathtaking view. The food was fresh and delicious. The hosts were welcoming and tried to help wherever they could. We did a kayak and snorkelling tour, and it was marvellous.

The stay at this villa is an absolute must! It’s incredibly beautiful, the surroundings are wonderful, and it’s the perfect place to relax. The beach is right in front of the house. The hosts, Klaus and Hayley, are exceptionally kind, friendly, reliable, and very attentive. They go above and beyond to help and support you, making you feel truly special. The food is amazing, and the atmosphere is peaceful. They are genuinely lovely people, and you can really unwind here. We returned to this place after a week-long safari in northern Tanzania and a few days in Arusha. We took an 8-9 hour bus ride south just to spend a few more days at Villa Matalei. Highly recommend!!!!
