The food was exceptional! I've been in many starred restaurants and hotels in Japan, but Auberge Hika no Mori was superb. Certainly the best food in hotel I have experienced. Dinner is very worth it.

The food was absolutely outstanding. It was honestly one of the best Italian meals I've ever eaten, and I lived in Italy for 6 months, so I've eaten some very good Italian food. The hotel is incredible - comfortable, serene, so relaxing. The onsen bath is just amazing. I will be back!

Very charming and aesthetic little hotel restaurant located in the woods just out of town. With nice little onsen - showers. Fantastic cuisine and wine (let the chef-owner pic for you). And extremely friendly and accommodating owner couple happy to pick you up / drop you off in town.

We loved our time at Auberge Hidanomori. The decor is beautiful and in a lovely location in the outskirts of Takayama. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who gave us recommendations for some local walks and provided a free shuttle to/from town. We would definitely recommend booking in for dinner - the food was incredible and the best that we had during our trip to Japan. We hope that we will be back again some day - thank you!

Design dream! Location is stunning, so peaceful in the hills. Food is out of this world, Keiko and Toshi couldn’t have been more accomodating and welcoming (one of us if GF). They shuttled us in and out of the centre, so no challenge getting about. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly.
