Location, facility arrangement and style, rooms with a great view and terrace, staff, food and game drives out if this world real up close encounters and saw the “big 5” and Jan our guide was terrific.

Our Ranger/Guide, Ty, was excellent. The animal sightings were also excellent, especially the leopard. Ty was engaging, knowledgeable and fun. We loved that there was no-one in the middle seat in the safari vehicle. It made viewing and photos so much easier. If the room issues noted below, and the meals were better we would definitely return as the safari drives were so good.

A fantastic location to see the wildlife of Africa. We saw 4 of the big 5 plus a Cheetah! Excellent Staff and Guides Wonderful meals and a very relaxing area by the pool overlooking the river.

This lodge is phenomenal. The staff and guides are knowledgeable and accomodating, the food is delicious and the river suite was perfect. I spent a lot of time researching lodges as we are travelling with kids (7 & 9) so we wanted somewhere relaxed. Umkumbe is luxurious but casual enough you don’t feel like you must dress up for dinner etc… the guide we had was patient with our kids and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect (Micaela) Our tracker (Moses) was also top notch, he tracked down all of the big 5 and more during our stay and was also wonderful with the kids. We stayed 3 nights which is the ideal time, I think 2 nights would be too rushed. 3 nights gives you 6 games drives and two afternoons to relax by the pool or on your private deck. We had massages during our stay, these were arranged by the lodge and done in the privacy of our room. We are already planning to return for a winter visit so we can experience Umkumbe in the dry season

The staff were so welcoming upon arrival. The guides were knowledgeable and tried to meet the expectations of everyone on each safari drive.
