The receptionist was charming and spoke perfect English making Check-in and check-out seamless. The property is surrounded by miles of olive trees and grape vines as far as the eye can see. The location of the hotel is superb. Pre-dinner appetisers and free wine were taken by a roaring fire before moving to the restaurant for the main event. The main course and homemade dessert were again accompanied by free wine. Dinner was eaten in traditional Portuguese style, sharing a long table with other guests. Chatting with the other guests made dinner a perfect evening. Our room was spotlessly clean and the ensuite had free toiletries and a good supply of hot water. We had a good night's sleep on comfy beds and an excellent breakfast served at 9am with panoramic views of countryside. The wine was so good we ended up purchasing 12 bottles. We are so glad we chose to stay at Herdade du Vau instead of a miserable corporate hotel.

Be prepared it’s a very long drive to find the hotel but well worth it!!! A very beautiful property made for you to relax and revive after travelling x. Wish we’d booked a longer stay! Very different boutique hotel. Staff were warm and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. Lovely experience

This stay was the final stop of our 10 day visit in Portugal. We have tried 5 different hotels at the same price range throughout Southern Portugal and this was the best. In the least expected place such a wonderful and exclusive experience! Thank you!

The venue is very isolated and difficult to reach - we liked that but some cars may find difficult to go off road. We called before to ensure there were some amenities for our toddler - I was guaranteed that they would put in the flat a high chair before our arrival, but they didn't. I had to ask for it again and it was not very clean. The flat was not fully equipped: from the booking pictures it features table and chairs in the terrace to enjoy the views and these were not available, no glasses in the kitchen, no cork opener, no matches for the kitchen hob, want to make rice and there is no strainer... It was missing very basic things. The staff was amazing and they really tried to help, but clearly they are understaffed and they need more support to be able to provide the standards they catter for. The dinner al fresco was lovely and the chef is very very skilled. Overall, a venue with a lot of potential and good staff, but the owners should recruit extra staff to have it running smoothly during the peak season, or they risk a burnout on the lovely existing staff.

Beautiful location and very peaceful place, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Feels like a quiet retreat in a stunning natural setting. Staff are really helpful and kind, and because the place is small, we got the chance to interact with other guests and the owners too, who were wonderful people.
