Up the Hill 15-20 minutes walk , We took taxi from station but ask before taking as some have flat Rate 15Euro for 5 mins drive! The Hotel , quirky, elegant looking facade with steep drive way. Can use steps or drive. Tough with cases!. Castle type exterior, really comes into its own in the sun, with terraces and roof top to view the bay and enjoy sunshine. Nice breakfast continental style. Freindly staff who will help despite language for all not english. Room spacious and clean rady for a good sleep. Can take in land walks and take coastal walk to portofino 5km , flat and enjoyable med scenary

10 minute walk to/from Santa centre (steep hill/steps), lots of character in building and furnishings, good air conditioning, quiet rooms, overall a fair price for what it is.

The characterful Hotel La Vela-Castello Il Refugio is full of lovely old-world charm with a lovely ambiente. The hotel has a commanding ocean view. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast is substantial. The staff is very friendly and so helpful. The location in Santa Margherita is ideal for visiting the Portofino/San Fruttuoso/Rapallo area.

The castle hotel is positioned beautifully on the hill of Santa Margherita with the most amazing panoramic view of the Italian Rivera! Incredible views ….our room was 26 and had the most wonderful view! And had a toilet with a view too! Staff were lovely and recommended the ferry boat along the coast to Portifino & other beautiful towns…you must do this, seeing these places from the sea is breath taking! The hotel is grand with sweeping staircase, clean and breakie was lovely.

The reception and main hallway was very pretty, the breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast itself was nice. The grounds were nicely done and the location to Santa Margherita was only 10 minutes walk.

We had a pleasant stay. The hotel is clean, reasonably comfortable with an authentic Italian vibe. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was great.
