The host was super welcoming and the rooms were beautiful. There are two sites, the main guesthouse on the edge of San Demetrio and a farmhouse that the owners are renovating about 400m from the town. We stayed in the farmhouse which has excellent views of the Pollino mountains. Breakfast was brought to us on the terrace of the farmhouse by the owner, which was a nice touch. The bedroom and bathroom were both very clean and the bed was comfortable. It is perfect for hikers. We were there doing stages of the Cammino Basiliano.

The B&B La Giara is located in an Albano-Italian (Arbëresh) community registered as European cultural heritage at the UNESCO. The building itself is used as a mill to produce one of the finest olive oils of the country from locally cultivated olives (San Demtrio is surounded by plenty of them). From there you have 5 minutes walk to the historical centre, but laid at the periphery of San Demetrio Corone (Arb. Shën Mitri), you also have a beautiful and free view on the landscape surrounding the village. I can warmly recommend this place and its location, because you have a fantastic climate even during the hottest summer days. Both coasts (the Thyrrenian and the Ionian) are not far, in half of an hour you can reach the National Park Sila Grande with its mountain lakes or in Northern direction (Sibari - Civita) the National Parco Pollino (about one hour), also Rossano calabro with the Greek monuments the katholikon San Marco and the Archimandritate Santa Maria del Patire are close.
