Stadtalm is in an incredible position, high above the city of Salzburg, with 180 degree views over the old city and in to the mountains beyond. It is a popular place for people to come for a drink or coffee and serves good food, in an outdoor seating area. The rooms seem to have been recently refurbished and were very clean. Of course, there are no en suites, so expect to walk a few yards to the shared showers/toilets. The internet worked well. There are no TV's, but you get a 5* view, better than the top hotel in Salzburg instead! There are a lot of steps (320 I think) to get to the Stadtalm, but you can also use the lift to the modern art gallery (charge) and then there is a 300 metre quite easy walk with no steps.

The location is what made our stay! Honestly cannot go past the stunning views you get from your bedroom window! Yes the climb to the hostel is a mission and a workout but once you are there it is all worth while! There is an elevator we used for 9.20 euro for two people up and down once. Yes it is a bit pricey but alternatively you could walk down the mountain of stairs. The room was clean and the bed was comfy, the bathroom and toilets were also well kept !! Would highly recommend!

Absolutely brilliant property, can’t recommend enough. The view is stunning, the owner is lovely and the rooms are nice. Only people I wouldn’t recommend is people that have trouble walking as it’s not the easiest to get to, but we loved that and it made for a great view. Will 100% return.

The location of the building with its incredible views and it being part of the fortress was worth enduring rather cramped accommodation and the long climb (including that to the bedroom itself 🙂).

The view is absolutely beautiful, and is worth the climb up the steps to get the hotel. There is also a lift between 10am -9pm
