Lodges Overview

Wake up to the sound of waves from the sea and birds singing in the trees. Just 3 km North of the Pancake Rocks, Te Nikau Retreat offers a range of unique accommodation for everyone - self-contained cottages, Lodges and private rooms. Every building is nestled in the native west coast bush connected by paths.
Fresh linen, bedding and towels are provided in all rooms. Internet access is available in all rooms.
In 8 minutes you can walk on a private path to the Truman beach - popular for its scenic views and spectacular sunsets.
Te Nikau Retreat is a 40-minute drive from Greymouth, a 50 minute drive from Westport and a 3-hour drive from the glaciers. Central Nelson is a 4.5-hour drive away. The closest shops and petrol stations are located in Westport and Greymouth, both a 40-minute drive from the property.

We love staying at Te Nikau retreat, this was our 3rd time! But first in the stargazer. What a special little room. The entire property is excellent value and stunning location in the lush native rainforest with easy access to the Truman Track and beach. Highly recommend!

The first impression might not be very good as the hostel needs some refreshing, but the longer I stayed the more I liked it. Its very relaxed, no noise from the street, very good lounge and a big kitchen. You can wash and dry your clothes in little bit more than one hour for a small price. The owner is helpful.

Very friendly host and staff. The accomodatie is really surrounded by beautyful flora in the forest. The bed room is spacious with a heater. The matrass is not soft or very firm . Just in between. It is handy to bring some of your own fresh groceries as there is no grocery shop nearby to my knowledge. Here is a small shop with tin and packed foods / drinks that can help you definitely too. Very lovely small pathways to you cabin and to the beach. The intercity bus stop about 200 m away, which is very helpful. Sbout 600 m down south there is a nice track along the river. More south you reach a restaurant at the pancake rock.

We keep coming back to Te Nikau every time we’re on the West Coast. A very special place tucked in the bush with amazing staff and a great trek to the beach to watch the sunset.
