Everything about our stay was wonderful! The room was spacious, the location was excellent and our host's hospitality was outstanding. The food was home cooked, plentiful and delicious, and our host very kindly took us on a nighttime walk to see the local wildlife, and even dropped us off at the bus stop when we left. There's a beautiful pond in the garden where you can sit, and we saw deer in the garden just outside our room this morning. I would 100% recommend, and thank you for such a lovely stay :)

We booked two of the three rooms and had the best stay here. Uppila the owner/host picked us up from the bus stop and he made our stay really enjoyable. Making connections with his family was a highlight. His wife cooked delicious Sri Lankan meals for us both breakfast and dinner, and catered to my friend's coconut allergy. We nearly didn't book this place because it was so cheap and we thought it might be substandard, however I can say it was just delightful, large basic room with mosquito net (no mossies in my room), a large big verandah looking out onto the garden. Uppila took us on a free guided night walk around his property to look for wildlife. Uppila booked our Ayurvedic massages, drove us there and waited. He organised a tuk tuk to the ruins. He was always up for a chat and we felt cared for. He was just so kind and friendly and open and honest. I feel privileged to have met him and his family. Stay here, you will love it!

A little gem. Located next to the ancient city. Upali offers simple yet great accommodation. Amazing food prepared by his wife. Night walk around the land pointing out local animal species. Lots of deer in the garden as well as bird species around a large pond. Great place to relax. Extended my says and will return. Bikes availabile at a good price. Many thanks for your hospitality. 😊

We had an amazing time here. The rooms are very spacious and clean. There's hot water to shower and food is amazing. One night we even had the chance to help and prepare our own meal the traditional way. Pick up and drop off at bus station are free. Very good service. At night you have an option to go for a walk to see some wildlife. Defo would recommend this place! The host speaks very clear english and really cares about his guests.

The best place by far we stayed in Sri Lanka. The host is extremely friendly and has a wonderful family. He is exceptionally helpful and just an all round lovely man. We were very sad to only stay one night as we truly felt at home here and very relaxed. Although away from the centre that is part of this stays charm. The food is delicious - as a vegan they catered for my dietary requirements without any issue. At night we walked around the area to look for wildlife which was amazing and very insightful. Highly recommend to anyone, and hope to be able to return in the future.

This is a real gem of a place and our 4 night stay here was a highlight of our trip so far. The hosts are some of the most welcoming, kind and generous people we have ever met, and we learnt so much from them about Sri Lanka, its flora and fauna, history and cuisine. If you’re looking for an authentic homestay in a beautiful green area, full of birds and other wildlife, you’ll love it here! Our room was spacious and spotless, and the ceiling fan cooled us sufficiently at night. The host took us on night time walks to look for wildlife and also showed us around the village, including his family’s vegetable patch and rice fields. We also cooked a number of dishes with the hosts in their beautiful garden which was an experience we will never forget. It was like cooking with family members and we’ll definitely recreate the recipes and techniques we learnt once home. The hosts also arranged for us an amazing safari to Kaudulla National Park with an experienced driver who had vast knowledge of birds and other animals. They also rented us high quality bikes to explore the ancient city which is just around the corner. The host’s wife is an incredible cook and every dinner time was a true feast. As vegetarians, we really appreciated the variety of vegetable curries, including some very unusual fruit ones! Each breakfast set us up really well for the day and, above all, all meals were healthy and made from high quality, fresh ingredients.

Uppali and his wife make this place amazing. It’s not flash, but exceptionally clean. Uppali is so kind and informative. He made our stay exceptional and his wife made us An exceptional dinner. We rented bikes for a very good price from him, and explored the ancient city. He also took us on a really fun animal night watch! 10/10
