Lovely hotel, but let down by the restaurant (in my opinion). *** I couldn't understand the 'welcome' message from the hotel, now I have been there, I understand, have re-written it .... Usual check-in time is 4 pm. The hotel is in an exceptional zone where the elephants bathe. They bathe in the river between 8.30 & 4 pm. If you want to check in before 4 pm, you will need to buy a 'half price' ticket for $7. This ticket allows you access to the elephant bathing area (& the hotel), but not to the orphanage. If you are staying at the hotel for two or more nights, you can (apparently) show your room key to the Tourist Police, who will allow you access to the hotel during your stay, without paying the $7 (still have to pay on first day, if you arrive before 4 pm). If you want to visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, you will still need to buy a full ticket @ $15. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is run by the Government, Zoological Department of Sri Lanka. Proceeds from tickets go towards food, medicine & staff to look after the elephants.

The elephants are phenomenal, what an incredible experience from the hotel pool. Loved watching the elephants come and go twice daily for a couple hours at a time. My daughter celebrated her 4th birthday on one of the days we stayed & staff made a very big deal to help celebrate for her, they went above and beyond.

Its got an amazing location, a nice pool overlooking the elephant swimming ground and a nice terasse for breakfast/lunch/dinner. For christmas they prepared a DJ to cheer up the guests which was fun!

The best is definitely the location! This is a nice and clean Hotel with really friendly staff just next to the river, where the elephants come 3 times a day to bath. I suggest to buy some bananas and then they really come close and you can feed them.

Hotel is beautiful and staff are friendly and helpful. Location is amazing, with views of elephants bathing from the room, pool and dining area.

Great view at bathing elephants, amazing pool, checkout untill 2pm (you can enjoy the elephants even during the leaving day).
