Really affordable rates. The shared facilities were well-kept. The staff were very responsive. Amazing location - only 2 - 3 mins walk from the beach.

Very clean and tidy, the staff are absolutely amazing and I would recommend this place to everyone. Top job Peppertree lodge and as I have stayed in almost every hotel in Paihia I can without a doubt say that this is the best of them all

The Kitchen area was well stocked and clean, they had a good BBQ that we used. The room was clean and had nice storage space for bags. The staff and other visitors were quite friendly, about 10 min walk into town.

It's no wonder this place has such amazing reviews -- there was a sign saying you could get a discount on extending your stay if you left a good review! On the whole, though, it is pretty nice, especially for the price. It's a cheerful, inexpensive, multicultural backpackers located a short walk from the beach, shops, wharf etc. The bunks have good firm spring mattresses and there is a locker for each person. There are two nice lounges, a large kitchen and dining area, and a pleasant courtyard with a BBQ and picnic tables. The kitchen has plenty of storage and fridge space. Tea and coffee bags are provided. There were a few long-term residents, all young people travelling and working; they were friendly and pleasant and set a good example in the kitchen and lounge, doing their dishes and keeping things tidy. There was only one shared bathroom and shower area, but it seemed to be enough -- even though the hostel was full, I never had to wait. Even though I stayed between Xmas and New Year, it was fairly quiet at night -- people seemed to be doing their partying at the pubs. There's no parking onsite, but even though it was really busy, I had no trouble parking nearby. Oh and the hostel had a friendly cat named Ollie :-)
