The fine print
Guests staying at the Jugendherberge Oberstdorf must be a member of the Deutschen Jugendherbergswerk or the Youth Hostel Association.Temporary membership can be purchased on arrival at the property. Annual membership costs EUR 7 for guests under 27 or EUR 22.50 for families or guests over 27.
International guests can only purchase daily membership, which costs EUR 3.50 per person per night.Please note that dinner is only served until 19:00.

Rural setting. It's a youth hostel. It's vibrant with lots of active guests both young and old. Bike storage ok. Bed ok. English available. Individual shower cubicles are set up ok so your clothes don't get wet. I liked that I could do some work on my bike, while I waited for my laundry to finish. Washer and dryer available for €2.50 each including detergent. Manual operation so I was able to extend the drying a little. Two course dinner menu ( Gulasch and waffles tonight) was generous and welcomed. Brekky was good.

Everything was very clean and there was a great atmosphere. Staff were lovely. A great base for your hike.

The location is great 👍 I was in shared room but the bed was good and the staff are helpful. You can go to Oberstdorf central station by nearby bus at Reute. Have a premium card from the reception by 5 euro to use it for transportation in the city. The hostel is a good start point for hiking 🥾
