Situated in the beauty of National Park and hosting guests for over forty years, Howard’s Mountain Lodge presents an idyllic and serene base from which to take in the epic scenery of the central plateau region.
Featuring several guest lounges with fireplaces, Howard’s Lodge is situated in the heart of National Park Village which is on the doorstep of the Tongariro Crossing and the Mt. Ruapehu Sky Waka {gondola}. Howard’s is known for catering to a wide range of room accommodation, meeting the needs of families, couples, individual travellers, school groups, sports clubs and other small and large groups including retreats and corporate stays and rewards.
In the Main building there is a combination of Family and Queen Deluxe Ensuite rooms with private bathroom facilities and in the Lodge building an excellent selection of Twins and Doubles for our budget minded travellers. The Ruapehu Wing offers an exclusive five [5] room accommodation on site which has full facilities and is perfect for couples wanting the ultimate privacy or for groups of friends or families who want to be fully self-contained during their visit.
For the enjoyment of our guests, there are multiple activities within the immediate surrounding area including the world renowned Tongariro Alpine Crossing {with a host of beautiful short walks throughout the valley region}, canoeing and river rafting, numerous mountain biking trails, trout fishing and nearby thermal pools. Howard’s Lodge is within proximity to Taupo where you will find a variety of fine restaurants, outdoor cafes, retail shops plus many exciting adventures and activities.

“Short but comfortable stay in the Ruapehu wing”

We stayed in the ruapehu wing. This is basic, nothing flashy but very clean and comfortable, it sleeps 10 (only had 7 people staying with me) and is a big space with plenty of room for everyone. I would happily stay again in the future. We used this as a base to do the Tongariro crossing which was awesome.

We were looking for something convenient to the Northern Circuit that was budget friendly. The room was great to sleep the four of us and having an ensuite was convenient. The shared kitchen facilities were clean and had everything we needed to self cater. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

The kitchen and communal lounge were well equipped. The family room was pretty good in terms of size. The owner was friendly and happy to help when we needed extra chairs for dinner. Good position for the Tongariro Crossing and other walks in the area and fair price.

The place is cosy, room is good, clean and had enough storage. The common area and kitchen - easy to use and had plenty of equipment. Reception was charmant and overall, a place that I would rate in different category. Also, very convenient to access the Alpine crossing
