Average stay with basic amenities but it was quite an experience in a seemingly old town that’s only operational in winter. Although communication can be a problem, hotel staffs and people were helpful.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Taiko. The tatami rooms were larger than most we have stayed in previously. The Onsen was really lovely with different temperature pools on offer. Breakfast was also excellent. The only slightly negative comment is the decor is dated. We would stay here again though.

Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of western and local dishes. Room was spacious and the onsens were very good. I was particularly impressed with the positive attitude of all the staff.

Breakfast selection was the same everyday but happy that there were full western as well as Japanese options, fresh fruit and salads. Loved the open air onsen. Very good location - walking distance to the Akakura Onsen Ski Resort. Two food stands outside the hotel in case you'd like an evening snack. Room was very spacious and with great views. Beds were very comfortable.

The breakfast was great, The manager ‘Dexter’ and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. We were able to hire skis and boots at the hotel with knowledgeable staff in the ski shop. The Onsen is great and always nice and hot. There was live music a few nights in the downstairs bar which was great, even at the end of the season when we were there. There is also a nice bar/cafe upstairs to relax après skiing.
