Cleanliness of room and breakfast. I liked that the receptionist without being asked, apologised to me when I left the hotel, for the way her colleague had upset me on my arrival at the hotel, I appreciated her thought.

Great location near the aldstadt - just across the road & up in the lift to the old town. Easy car parking under the hotel (paid parking) lots of space. Large comfy rooms with TV, coffee maker & toiletries in bathroom. Excellent breakfast - good choice of hot & cold. Helpful & friendly staff

Of the three air-conditioned hotels within reasonable walking distance of Marburg’s main train station, this is the most distant by far, a good 20 min. march (which is nothing when one is unencumbered but a pain when burdened by one’s big pack on a change-of-accommodation day). Nevertheless, it has a host of fine features that make it a sound Marburg choice and is significantly better than some guest reviews might indicate. Having read that the property’s street-side rooms suffer from traffic noise, I booked a garden-facing room and had no trouble with noise whatsoever: the sound level was fine, even on a festival weekend, and the view from my window was unremarkable but pleasant. Nor did I have any trouble with the free WiFi, which was strong and readily available. As for hot water, I can only assume that reviewers who claimed to have none simply did not wait long enough: the hotel’s hot-water system is akin to what we North Americans are used to, rather than the European norm: one needs to let the faucet run for a while for the hot water to arrive, but once it does, it is consistently hot and remains so for as long as one uses it. The rooms themselves — or at least the Deluxe room that I booked — are more generous in terms of space than one might expect at this price point. And although I was warned in advance that the hotel had switched from carpeting to cold hardwood/tile flooring, my room still had comfortable wall-to-wall carpeting, which was a very pleasant surprise indeed. Breakfast, which is available from 6:30 daily (including weekends), is served in a nice setting and is altogether quite good, offering a vast array of options, including delicious scrambled eggs, especially good bacon, and Nürnberg-style Würstchen. And while the distance to the Hauptbahnhof is farther than one would wish and makes catching early day-trip trains difficult, the hotel’s situation right by the city’s Altstadt means that all of Marburg’s attractions are just steps away.
