Hostel Overview

This Art Deco hostel is within a renovated palace and overlooks São Pedro de Alcântara and Tagus River. Set on the border of Lisbon's trendy Bairro Alto district, it provides free WiFi and a restaurant with a secluded beer garden.
The Independente provides modern dormitory rooms and private suites with classical Portuguese architecture and a distinct décor and feel. All rooms have seating areas and high ceilings. Some offer balconies with river views. Guests have access to communal kitchen facilities and to a shared lounge area.
Modern Portuguese cuisine can be enjoyed in the Art Deco setting of the Decadente Restaurante & Bar. All meals and cocktails are prepared with locally sourced produce.

My third stay and I like this place very much. First it is very well located right in the center of Lisbon and second the house is very nice, kind of old mansion with very high ceilings and big staircases. It's clean, there is a pleasant atmosphere and staff is super friendly. What else?

The location is very good, it is walking distance to many nice places including Principe Real, Botanical Garden, Chiado,Bairro alto, also just in front Time Out market, many nice restaurants and bars etc. Also just in front of the hotel there is a bus stop and also trams stop by. The room was cleaned daily, had high ceilings and felt spacy. The bed was comfortable. the breakfast was nice. The lady working during breakfast was very friendly and had a nice energy.

Beautiful decor with lots of character, quiet, wasn't bothered by anyone and it felt like it was my home. Wonderful to have a coffee machine in the room.

My fifth stay at Independente, so I know what to expect and keep coming back! It's gotten so popular, but the staff are as warm as always. They were also so quick to help out and even make up the sofabed that I hadn't warned them I needed.
