I had a great stay at the De Doelen Hotel. The location is fantastic: very convenient for exploring the area, with everything I needed close by. The staff were exceptionally nice and welcoming. Breakfast was also a highlight, offering good quality and variety for a very reasonable price. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in central Leiden.

A fabulous central location on the canal (10mins walk from station) and a few doors from the very impressive National Museum of antiquities Amazing historic building, best described as shabby splendour. Room was full of character, it faced canal so was a little noisy from late night revellers. Bathroom modern and clean. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. if you like to avoid chain hotels and stay somewhere with character then this is the place!

De Doelen is an old historical building and that shows. It’s quite charming though and the staff is exceptionally friendly. Soundproofing could be improved though, both between rooms and to the outside. Breakfast is good and value for the relatively low price.

Owner. Kettle and drink sachets in room. Location excellent. Spotless room and all facilities good. Able to leave case in hotel on leaving day allowing me to look around the area before catching a train.

Very large room with nice shower room. Large comfortable bed. Good central location. Owner kindly stored our bikes in locked courtyard. Breakfast was extra as per the listing, good value 7.50 euro pp
