Ryokan Overview

Located next to the historic Nanzen-ji Temple, Kyoto Garden Ryokan Yachiyo features chic Japanese-style rooms and large public baths. It is surrounded by beautiful Japanese gardens, which change their colours each season. Free Wi-Fi is provided in the entire area.
With a relaxing ambience, rooms are fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and futon bedding. A flat-screen TV is provided. Some rooms have views of the garden and some come with a private bathroom.
Guests at Yachiyo Garden Ryokan can unwind in the public baths or relax in the lounge which has free internet PCs. Massages can be requested at an extra charge, and a free luggage storage service is offered. A gift shop is available on site.
JR Kyoto Station is about a 25-minute drive or taxi ride away. Eikando and Heian Jingu Shrine can be reached within a 10-minute walk from the property. Famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a 15-minute taxi ride away.
On-site restaurant overlooking the gardens offers delicately-prepared traditional Japanese meals. Vegetarian multi-course meals are available, and other requests can be accommodated.

Main building is built in 1915 and this is a renovated maisonette room in April, 2021, with a steam sauna. Features garden views, this maisonette style room in the main building is consisted with a 10 tatami mats Japanese style + Western room with two semi-double beds+ steam sauna which is manufactured by TYLOHELO in Sweden and shower / toilet. An en suite bathroom with a large glass window features a bathtub made from Japanese cypress and the scent of cypress drifts in the sauna room You can enjoy the garden of the four seasons from the bay window. Built in 1890, this room was last renovated in 2021. In January 2025, we upgraded the Japanese futons in all guest rooms.

A lovely stay in an authentic Ryokan. The location is amazing, close to a metro and the surrounding areas are wonderful to explore. Staff spoke enough English to get by but were very polite. Clean and spacious with lovely breakfast. It's traditional so don't expect an upscale hotel or boutique, but if you want a night (I think one was enough) in traditional surroundings, this is the place.

Room was extremely spacious for 2 people, quiet area which made it easy to relax. Breakfasts were amazing, both the traditional Japanese and Western versions which changed every day. Shabu-shabu for dinner was definitely a highlight for me. Wish I had planned to try the other options during our stay Conveniently close to a train station for getting around, and multiple shrines within walking distance to enjoy

We loved being greeted by a traditionally decorated entrance and common area, and the sound of crickets in the reception. The rooms were more spacious than we expected but still very cozy and of course clean. There was a nice pocket garden to view as well. The free ice cream and private onsen were a pleasant surprise and just what we needed after long days of walking and in the heat. But our favorite part was the amazing breakfast, tasty nutritious and filled us up for the long days of sightseeing, served in full view of the beautiful garden. To top off, the staff were very helpful and friendly! I would highly recommend this place to everyone who visits Kyoto!

The room was spacious and comfortable and had everything you needed. The onsen on the property was excellent and relaxing. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Could not fault this place the staff were impeccable and beyond helpful we called for an extra towel it was at our door within 1 minute of putting the phone down The free bikes were life savers! We used them everyday all day and saw the city way more than we would without , what a great feature to offer and we didn’t even see it stated on the website

The staff were friendly and the room met our expectations. We didn’t eat at the restaurant, but it had beautiful gardens and the food looked good. I would recommend this Ryokan.
