Really good price. Very friendly staff. Very clean. Decent sized room (double room with loft for a couple). Good soundproofing--did not hear anyone else nor the street. Free breakfast was bread and salad if you don't feel like eating out. Luggage storage is not totally secure but they can keep valuables behind the front desk. Fast elevator even though only one. Bike parking outside. 4-5 mins walk to Shijo station. Fast WiFi.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ IMU Hotel Kyoto was a bit tricky to find at first, and we ended up taking an Uber since we hadn’t fully gotten the hang of the trains and subways after spending our first week in Hakuba. But once we arrived, we were immediately blown away. The hotel’s large, beautiful glass windows revealed the chef preparing a delicious gnocchi dish, setting the tone for an unforgettable stay. Inside, the restaurant and bar area exuded a friendly, welcoming vibe, with cozy seating that encouraged socializing. We quickly met some lovely couples enjoying happy hour, who kindly invited us to join while our kids had fun in the designated kids’ area. The food was exceptional—well-priced and full of flavor—and the cocktail selection was vast, making it easy to unwind after a busy day. We opted for the more traditional room where we slept on the floor. All four of us had our own single mattress, which rolled out on the tatami floor. The mattresses were like thick memory foam, offering great comfort. The first night, I slept like a baby, but by the second night, I did experience some back soreness from sleeping on the floor. Thankfully, we were only staying for two nights, so it wasn’t a huge issue. The hotel is in a quiet, peaceful part of Kyoto, but still within walking distance to the train station (once we figured it out). We were able to explore the Gion district and wander around the city with ease. Its location was perfect—quiet, yet close to everything we wanted to see. Overall, IMU Hotel Kyoto was a fantastic choice for our short stay. The combination of welcoming ambiance, great food, and comfortable rooms made it the perfect base for exploring this beautiful city.

Comfortable beds, powerful shower, separate toilet, fabulous breakfast, good vegan options in restaurant. Great happy hour and sake tasting. Team were all lovely.

This is one of the best budget hotels I ever stayed in. Why go in a capsule hotel when for the same price you can get a whole room and choose your own pillow? The service is outstanding. The location is ideal and the staff is amazing! If you are ever in Kyoto, look no further. They have free sake, coffee and water for the guest and any other amenities needed! 20/10 place

Relaxed atmosphere. Spoke to 4 different staff during my stay, they were all cheerful and helpful. Location perfect. The whole place is really well organized and managed.

Imu Hotel offers excellent value for money, with exceptionally friendly, professional, and helpful staff who make you feel welcome. There’s a bar for relaxation, and they provide vegan food options. If you’re interested in the story of the “Ghost Child Candy,” be sure to ask the staff for details on how to visit and purchase souvenirs.

This was one of our favourite hotels from our trip to Japan. The hotel was very stylish and had a nice bar area at the front (they offer free wine and sake to guests staying at the hotel!). The staff were super helpful and friendly, and they allow luggage storage in the daytime should you need it. The rooms were a good size and were clean. There was space for a few suitcases which was a welcome change from the hotels in Tokyo! Imu hotel is in a good location in the dead centre of Kyoto, it’s just a 5 minute walk to the metro station which takes you straight to Kyoto station. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the area too so plenty of selection to eat and drink. We didn’t try the food at the hotel restaurant but it did look great. We would 100% stay at this hotel again should we return to Kyoto.
