The Moon and Chalice is a friendly small hotel in a perfect location right near the old quarter of Kunming. The manager went out of her way to help us get a China SIM card and to a little tea house where we could drink tea for free! The room, tho small, had everything we needed including mandarins and local special fruit tea.

The room has all the comfort you need, even an heated floor for the winter months. Although the weather in Kunming is always pleasant even in winter. The location is fantastic, you can walk around and experience the old part of Kunming and the modern part just minutes away walking. It's perfect for your first time in China! And the reception speaks English, she helps you in anything you need! Very friendly and efficient! Thank you very much, I will come back to this hotel.

Great location in the old part of the city sorrounded by lots of traditional restaurants and shops. The owner was kind and also very helpful, as all the other staff members. Every day we could find in our room some delicious tea as a gift. Much appreciated!

LingLing was amazing, got me up to speed with the Kunming mobile scene, Alipay, wechat. She booked restaurants, recommended sites and was a wonderfully patient guide for the city. Hotel is indeed an icon right in the heart of the old quarter, don't miss the morning cart vendors

The convenient location was our base for exploring the old streets filled with shops, stalls, restaurants, cafes, historical buildings, as well as new shopping malls across the main road. The friendly front counter lady gave suggestions on places to eat. We tried them and they were all great. The room was clean and comfortable. There’s ceiling heater to keep the shower area warm during winter.

Love the fact that it’s in an older building. Some may find the town square by the hotel “noisy” but I found it gives you an insight into a different culture and life in Kunming - I loved it. It’s also close to the night market and a shopping mall. Everything is at its doorstep.

The hotel manager was an absolute gem, so helpful. The bed was the most comfy one on my whole trip. Very attentive, lovely room, very good location.

Clean room with great amenities and central location. The building is iconic and many people will come to take photos in front of the building. Staff were very helpful and even provided us complimentary tea everyday.
