The listed building was constructed in 1760. The 2 stone lions at the entrance are silent witnesses of the past, once being part of the eastern gate of Carinthia’s capital.

What a find. This charming, elegant place is just brimming with Austro-Hungarian history. A former monastery built in 1760 (its still retains facets of its original architecture) it was once hosted the Emperor Franz Josef himself for a night during his visit to the city in 1806. His portraits are everywhere among a treasure trove of regal and local artefacts which add to the hotel's stylish history. The owner/manager is a very interesting lady, whose father was a well-known local politician and worth a chat with. My only regret is I couldn't stay another night because I had a plane to catch.
