It was such a beautiful and surreal experience staying at Wanakaset. Was like staying in a whimsical treehouse with indulgent creature comforts. And the food was incredible - some of the best I had in Sri Lanka!

Our stay at Wanakaset was TRULY MAGICAL and deserves a 10+++ rating! This has been one of the most unique places we’ve ever stayed at and we can recommend it to anybody who is passing by the Kitulgala area. The one-of-a-kind property is located in the middle of the forest (the pictures don’t do the beauty of the place justice) , which has been grown and taken care for by property manager Banda over the past decade. Banda’s passion for restoring the biodiversity in the area is truly exemplary. Staying at Wanakaset means you’re contributing to a great cause, as the property was opened to fund the biodiversity conservation project. We stayed in the gorgeous Apple room, which has a breathtaking view over the forest and mountains. Waking up to the sounds of the surrounding nature was a unique experience. The room and separated bathroom were spacious, very clean and well-taken care of. Even though the room is fully open (no windows) in the nature, we were pleasantly surprised that there were barely mosquitos at night. Lastly, the service during our stay was impeccable! The staff has been most welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Our meals at Wanakaset were delicious and the best we had during our trip in Sri Lanka. We can highly recommend all guests to book the dinner & breakfast, which are plant-based and prepared with local ingredients. As the location of the property is in the middle of the forest, Banda communicated pre-arrival clearly how to get to the property. If you come by Tuktuk yourself, you can also ask Banda to pick you up at the main street with his jeep, so you don’t need to drive the final few narrow and steep roads to the property by yourself. The staff can help drive your tuktuk to the property. Our stay was beyond perfect and we wish we could’ve stayed longer. Big thanks to Banda and the team for an unforgettable experience. We’ll definitely come back here in the future!

Amazing property located deep in the forest. The beds are extremely comfortable with bedrooms on open verandahs so you really feel part of nature. The sights and sounds of the forest are incredible. We saw a troop of playful monkeys on arrival and lots of kingfishers, bats and butterflies. The food is delicious, breakfast and dinner are available. Banda is an inspirational man with a passion for plants and nature and is happy to explain the history and fascinating geography of the area. He organised our white water rafting experience and transport to our next destination. This is a very special place and I highly recommend.

Another booking.yeah moment when we arrived at the property. The noisiest night’s sleep ever with the jungle orchestra playing at full volume but what an experience! Going to sleep with fireflies dancing around our bed. Perfect base for whitewater rafting which all our family loved. Just a short walk in the surrounding area and we saw monkeys, tea, coffee, and peppercorn plants, and much more. Great value for money for a proper jungle experience. The food was plentiful, plant based and delicious with the jungle proving many of the ingredients.

The staff here is really friendly, and the manager even gave us a discount on our room, which was a nice surprise. There’s a lobby area where you can chill and enjoy the view—it’s a great spot to relax. The food was decent, nothing special but definitely not bad. The best part, though, was the rooms. They’re open to the surroundings, which makes sleeping and waking up feel amazing—like you’re right in the middle of nature.

Loved the vibe and the peace and beauty of the forest get away. Falling asleep under our comfortable mosquito netted beds watching fireflies flittering around the room and rafters listening to the songs of the forest was an experience we will long remember. The staff were lovely and cooked us some delicious meals incorporating some edible leaves from the forest.
