The Royal Bar and Hotel is centrally located in the heart of Kandy, in walking distance to the tooth temple, lake and downtown markets. The breakfast on the balcony in the upper floor is nice and was tasty. The whole interior still has a bit of colonial flair, which is why we wanted to stay here. I was even offered to play the old piano. So, our expectations were matched.

This colonial-style hotel was everything I'd hoped it would be – like stepping back in time, but with all the modern conveniences. On arrival, we had a fruit drink overlooking a pretty atrium, with wonderful gnarly trees that reached up above the roof. We admired the artworks, which varied from vintage photos to retro posters advertising train trips in Sri Lanka. We had a four-poster bed and a spacious bathroom; the furnishings complemented the style of the building. In the morning, we enjoyed breakfast on the first floor (second floor, if you're not from the UK!) overlooking the hustle and bustle of the street below. The food was really good: a very generous plate of tropical fruit, homemade juice, a basket of baked goodies (possibly from the adjacent bakery, but I forgot to ask) and eggs of your choice. The staff were all really nice.

My favorite hotel in Kandy. Old style of hospitality, perfect staff, cozy rooms and amazing breakfast! In the centre of the City heart - very comfortable to get any sightseeing, railway station, restaurants and shops

Staff was very friendly. The breakfast was really well arranged. We were in a rush because we had to take a train at 08:13 and the breakfast starts at 07:30. They offered to take our breakfast orders a day before, so they can prepare it in advance. That was very considerate. The facility and atmosphere of this building is very unique and antique. It felt like you traveled back in time. The room did not even have a tv or coffee machine! But they did have an AC which was nice. Great location. 5 min walk to the temple. The bar was open till 11pm but we didn’t hear much noise in our room.

Great atmosphere, lively bar and food choice continental , no Srilankan food in the menu for breakfast, but available for payed meals . My friend owns the hotel , and got the five star service. That was also the reason I picked Royal Bar and Hotel

Beautiful historical courtyard property restored with great taste. Rooms were good, dining area with balcony beautifully designed with historic decor. Food and service were great. Located in hub of the city a few minutes walk from the tooth temple. Worth noting that half the building is the hotel and downstairs there is a cafe open to the public .. which looked great also!
