Sumiyoshiya is a beautiful ryokan in the heart of Kanazawa. I would describe it as nearly perfect, the tatami mats are a touch thin however, so quite firm if you're a side sleeper. Overall, really good!

Great stay, lovely traditional but modern and spacious rooms, fabulous location for all major tourist spots we visited, especially beautiful sakura in the gardens close by!

The hostess was very welcoming. The home cooked breakfast was delicious and it was a great experience to try such an elaborate traditional Japanese breakfast. The room was really big and the private bathroom was clean and comfortable. There was also a little common area to read and relax in, as well as a public bath. Yukata, slippers, etc are provided. I cannot recommend this place enough. It is a family-run business and the attention to detail is evident. There is a cozy atmosphere that you will only find in this type of inn. It was exactly what we needed after being out in the snow.

We had the privilege of staying in this 300 years family run Kanazawa’s oldest Ryokan. Everything was extraordinary! We’re just thankful for their hospitality and smiling faces 🙏 I would come to Kanazawa just for this Ryokan. Do not miss the breakfast! Do not miss the onsen. Strongly recommended!

Sumiyoshiya is an exceptionally beautiful place to stay. Great location, large and comfortable traditional room that’s been recently refurbished. Breakfast was generous, delicious and great value. Hot tea in our room was a lovely touch. The very attentive staff couldn’t do enough for us. I’m already dreaming of a return trip.

We loved the traditional Japanese ryokan style, simple, minimal and has everything you need! We also loved the Japanese breakfast! Our host was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, she was a star!

Amazing location, clean and tidy but also super cozy. Host was very nice and hospitable. Room was affordable priced. Hotel itself is in a beautiful traditional building and is close to most of Kanazawa main attractions. Excellent stay!

Japanese breakfast was outstanding - setting us up for a day of touring in the snow. Dinner was an amazing experience and the host was kind, generous and very accomodating.
