 Retreat into nature, birds, animals and stars by the sea    Step off the world for a while to a beautiful Eco place, immersed in nature. Centro Ubuntu …. a paradise with the waves lapping into the small private bay where you can swim or snorkel. Lounge on the drop dead gorgeous wooden terrace overlooking the sea. The spacious, fan-cooled rooms are spotless with a shower room open to the stars. The white sheeted bed was really comfortable. Lots of stunning wooden features literally, crafted by nature.  From the various activities on offer,  we took the late afternoon Mangrove canoe trip. The wonderful Phillipe paddled us through the mangrove tunnelled waterways under the changing colours of the leafy canopy. We were fixed on the nowness, watching the changing greens and reflections in the water. Leaving the lake, we were greeted by a dozen pelicans throwing themselves at the water trying to catch fish. Margarita who set up the resort with her husband 8 years ago is a force of nature, intent on improving the lives and eco system of their island home. “We are trying to be as self supportive as possible she said on our arrival.Water is gold to us so please use it wisely” ( it has to be shipped in by boat) However, unlimited free tops ups of your water bottles are always available. The staff were friendly and eager.Food is simple but delicious, cooked to order as you sit under the palm-roofed dining area. Beer,wine, cocktails and soft drinks available from the attentive staff. Ulrike, a volunteer from Germany helping to replant the mangroves could not have done more to help us too. Always about to help and advise. Centre Ubuntu is a real gem trailblazing tourism in a sustainable way on a beautiful island to preserve nature and allowing us to experience the real Isla Grande. We had an amazing stay at Centro Ubuntu Isla Grande! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and staying in a wooden house right by the ocean was beautiful. Waking up to the sound of the waves and enjoying the peaceful surroundings made our trip truly special. A huge thank you to Karolina, whose warmth and hospitality made us feel so welcome. She went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, and her kindness made our stay even more memorable. My kids and I felt so at home here, and we can’t wait to come back! If you're looking for a relaxing escape in a stunning setting with amazing hosts, this is the perfect place! Highly recommend.

Centro Ubuntu is a warm and friendly little patch of paradise on Isla Grande. Margarita and her team have created such a welcoming and relaxing environment here, the food is delicious and cooked to order , the trips and activities available for you to book are great, and the decking area over the sea is a beautiful place to relax. The site is charming, it has a natural feel with lots of trees and shaded seating areas and sweet animals wandering around .Our hut was on the beach front with a lovely terrace and the views were incredible. The term "Eco" is used very loosely in the region, but Ubuntu truly does live its values. The site has such an interesting story and I encourage everyone there to discuss the project with Margarita and hear of the wonderful work she is doing to share her learnings and promote community/eco tourism across the National park. This made the community feel of Ubuntu all the more special and we were so grateful to be able to visit this amazing but fragile environment whilst staying somewhere with sustainability in mind. I would highly recommend this place to all!

Great location on the island, quiet with a private beach and possibility of snorkeling, good quality food, kind staff, ideal to relax for a few days

Great spot on the island with the most beautiful sunsets and nice little still water beach for snorkelling. The beach huts were comfortable, food simple but good, and the manager Carolina was really friendly and helpful. You could walk to a bigger surf beach and restaurants.

My partner and I had such a fantastic stay at Ubuntu. 🌞The location was idyllic and beautiful - we swam and sunbathed at the lovely private beach, everyday during our three night stay there. 🏊🏝️The staff were welcoming and kind. 🫶The meals of the in-house chef were delicious and made up fresh. 😋 Ubuntu is the perfect place to relax and enjoy Island Grande at a slower pace that is away from the party crowds. 100% recommend. 🧘‍♂️☀️

Centro UBUNTU is without question one of the top places I have ever stayed. While the north side of Isla Grande is very busy and full of a million day trippers and boats, the Southside where UBUNTU is is exponentially quieter. And as an eco-land project with a commitment to racial justice and being in right relation to the residents of the Island, it stands out from other spots that appear as more extractive tourist "bubbles." UBUNTU's beach area is incredible - calm waters for spending hours swimming in or reading in the beach chairs (covered or not). Yes there is not a ton of sand but these are *coral* islands and if you expect sandy beaches you would be better going somewhere the *actual* geography matches your desires. In addition, the grounds of UBUNTU are a low-key paradise - lush vegetation everywhere, incredible views, friendly dogs and chickens and even a turkey (!). The cabana we stayed in was perfect for sleeping - not too hot, the mosquito nets and fans kept the bugs away, and we happily spent evenings playing cards on the porch or lounging in the hammock. And the food is not only great but very reasonably priced in comparison to other hotels on the island. But *most* importantly the staff is incredibly helpful and warm. Carolina - the host - not only gives guests a detailed orientation to UBUNTU and the island, she was always available to answer questions - and when she found out that my partner is a professional musician she connected him with a neighbor who is a significant folk musician in Colombia - one of the highlights of the whole trip. The rest of the staff is just as amazing - one day we ordered a "coco loco" for a happy hour time cocktail (assuming some mix of coconut milk and perhaps rum) and next thing we knew the kitchen staff were parading out cocktails *in coconuts* (not at all what we expected!) and after sharing a laugh, we learned that they had cut down these coconuts from the tree just for us!
