Hotel Overview

Located in the picturesque Devonshire town of Illfracombe is the Royal Britannia Hotel. Totally refurbished in 2010, the hotel overlooks the harbour and has 2 restaurants and 2 bars, offering cuisine from Northern China, Sunday carvery and bar meals.
Former notable guests of the hotel include Lord Admiral Nelson and King Edward VII. Rooms at the Royal Britannia feature TVs and tea/coffee making facilities, whilst some have sea views and spa baths.
The large restaurant has exposed wooden beams and serves English and international cuisine. There is a carvery with a range of meat, and a sea-food menu featuring the fresh catch from Illfracombe harbour.
There are two bars, serving a wide range of drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Devonshire cream teas are also available for guests to enjoy.
The hotel is surrounded by the harbour stunning countryside walks. The golden, sandy beaches of Woolacommbe are a haven for surfers, and are a 10-minute drive away.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is perfect for our dog who loves the beach. The room we stayed in had a sea view which was lovely at night to look out at the view.

The hotel staff were pleasant and always tried to help or got the right person to help you. Room was upgraded to a large double free of charge to allow more room for our dogs. Breakfast was very good. All rooms were cleaned daily’s

Good location next to harbour, lovely view from our room (32), spacious room with large 4 poster bed which was very comfortable. Great night's sleep. Only a short walk from Ropery car park, shops and restaurants. Good bar and terrace area, with sea views. Good menu in bar. Great check in and check out times.

*We stayed in the Lady Hamilton room on the top (2nd) floor with great sea views. *The room was simple but comfortable with a modern bathroom. *Once the pub closed it was surprisingly quiet. *We paid £89 plus £15 for our dog to stay (we went out for breakfast).

Great room number 26 overlooking the harbour. Was quiet by 11pm when bar stopped serving. Wonderful outlook over boats and hills behind.

We arrived at 9.30pm on a rainy Friday in September and cheekily asked if the hotel had a room with a view available. To our delight the lovely man at reception upgraded us to a large room with a great view of the harbour. The room was spacious and comfortable and we passed a very pleasant evening.
