“A great place - but bring earplugs.”

I stayed a few nights over two separate stays. The staff were great, the whole stay was great particularly the large size of the room and the delicious breakfast. Excellent value for money. The location is great (I deliberately chose to be a short walk from town), in that there is no through-traffic and therefore no road noise (a real issue in Peru, in my experience).

This is kind of a pros and cons review. The pros: good sized clean basic room, lots of hot water, good wifi, the host speaks English very well and was very helpful recommending and booking day-hikes (that's all we do). Easily added another night at a good rate. Very quiet for three nights. There was a large celebration going on just down the hill with bands, dancing groups, food stalls etc which we would have missed if we stayed closer to the main square. The cons: google maps and taxi drivers don't seem to know where this place is located...we arrived around 20:00 (after dark) and got close but in the end had to wait for the host outside a nearby hotel and be shown the way. The place is not too far from the centre but it is 15-20 minutes walk and the last bit is on irregular, unpaved roads and not very pleasant. Basic breakfast. Often seems to be no staff on site although the host was responsive to messages. Our last night the place was almost full and it was quite noisy. Overall it worked for us but I wouldn't say we were enthusiastic.
