The Gora Kadan is an exceptional facility. We chose a room with a private onsen which was really enjoyable. The dinner and breakfast were exceptional. unfortunately we could only stay one night. Staff were very helpful when I arrived using a walking stick.

This hotel has a long history, apparently it was an Imperial family villa in the 1700s and was adapted as a ryokan only in the 20th century or so. As such, it provides a truly cultural and traditional experience. This is amazing for first time visitors who want to experience some of the Japanese culture, but also has a catch (see below). I loved the hot springs bath in our room, that felt like a truly premium experience, especially as it was very cold outside. The food (breakfast and dinner) was served in our room, in a traditional style, which also contributed to the nice Japanese experience. We also took advantage of the SPA massage procedures available, which were quite reasonably priced and very pleasant.

The service was sublime. The in-room meals were an incredible experience; attention to detail like no other meal I've ever eaten. A few flavours less palatable for the westerners, but overall we just loved it. We particularly loved the Japanese breakfast. Special thanks to Shizuka for taking such good care of us. The outdoor onsen was also lovely - especially when dark outside.

Location is great! The rooms look beautiful on picture, the bath experience is nice and there were a few small gestures that made the overall experience nicer, such as delivering a framed picture of us to the room.

The property was beautiful, traditional yet with a modern touch. You are well taken care of from the moment you arrive. Rooms are clean and spacious. I loved our outdoor terrace especially since we visited during red leaves season. Service and dinner was excellent.

The Japanese kaiseki dinners for both nights delicious and excellent, and different. The Japanese breakfast were amazing and delicious, the multiple dishes beautifully served. Kenji-san, who looked after us took very good care of us and made our stay special.
