If you can afford it, you should not miss out on this kind of ryokan stay! One of the most stunning buildings I have stayed at in Japan. The windowed corridors and woodwork, the koi pond and the inside garden are so charming. All the various onsen have a bit of a decadent vibe, like they have not been renovated since a last retouch in the 60s; taking a bath is quite chilly in winter, but it's part of the experience. Get a room with a river view, being able to look at the water while sipping a tea and wearing your yukata is priceless. Consider getting the meals too: Hakone is generally a rip-off anyways, at least here you'll actually eat well!

Everything was amazing! The building is stunning and the food was amazing. We’re so happy we chose to have the traditional dinner. The whole experience was so special. But the best part was our host Akiko. She was so sweet and went above and beyond to make our stay special. Thank you Akiko x

This is an absolute gem of a place. One of the highlights of our two weeks in Japan. Felt incredibly lucky to be able to sample a private onsen experience. The food was breathtaking, and we couldn’t have been looked after better.

What an amazing experience - the staff were so attentive, the food was authentic (the vegetarian option was delicious as well) If you’re looking for a traditional ryokan experience this is it. The 5 baths are all unique (3 are private and you book a time each day) and very relaxing. You really feel like you are transported back in time. Highly recommend

Thank you for this extraordinary break. Really exotic in every way in this traditional establishment from 1890. We slept in futons, wore yukata. During our one-night stay, we were able to book a private bath twice, once in the late afternoon and a second time in the morning, at no additional cost. The setting is magnificent. In an interior courtyard you can see koi carps and calm waterflow. Near the windows of our room, a forest with a waterfall, making a perfect sound ambiance to sleep well. The service was exceptional. The staff was very attentive and asked very specific questions about our special diets and preference so that the dining experience was the best possible. The staff also offers good advice on the surrounding area and travel logistics.

We had an exceptional time at Fukuzumiro. It really felt like stepping into a traditional Japanese inn. The room was big, the onsens were an amazing way to relax after having visited Hakone all day. Dinner was absolutely amazing, with a lot of variety and traditional Japanese food. A special thanks to Akiko, our room attendant, who was incredibly nice, spoke great English, and explained everything to us. Fukuzumiro is lucky to have her!

Great old rokyan experience. Felt like Shogun movie set….very quiet and comfortable. Yellow and blue private onsen - must visit. Overall we highly recommend this place. Superb dinner
