Staying at Umeya was definitely a highlight of our trip in itself. Honjo was incredibly attentive and caring to our needs, and told us about the wonderful history of this centuries old house. It is located just minutes away from one of the most beautiful shrines I got to see in Japan, I'll never forget the trees leading towards the shrine! Thank you Honjo :)

It's such a cool traditional house, spacious and beautifully decorated. Honjo was very kind and helpful host, he gave me bicycle for free, and brought me to bus station after checkout. If you don't like boring hotels, welcome!

The host was exceptional and went well above and beyond for us several times. Upon arrival we had a detailed description of how everything in the house worked, as well as maps of town and bus schedules so we could get around easily, and recommendations of where to eat. The house is very well maintained and was way larger than expected, was clean and had heaters in every room and is full of history. Each bicycle we used was personally adjusted for each of our heights, and the host assisted us with an unplanned trip into another part of town when otherwise we would have been out of luck. It felt like staying in a part of history and we were very privileged to have been allowed to stay there.

Everything was amazing. The house is huge and traditional, really sets you in the old Japan atmosphere The host is really nice, he speaks good English and gave us recommendations for things to do, see or it.

The house was amazing, loved the traditional.style. We could use bicycles for free which was very convenient. The bus from kawaguchiko station stopped just a few meters away.from the house. On the opposite side of the street there was a really nice shrine which I visited every morning for some.calmness. the owner of the house was very nice and drove us to the station on our last day.

This was a unique and interesting stay in a traditional 200 year old family home. Clean, comfortable, with a fantastic host in Hondu-san. The region is beautiful, there is a beautiful shrine right across the street (also helpful in finding the exact address).We only regret not having had more time to visit and explore.

It was a great opportunity to experience the marvelous architecture and the traditional interior of the Oshi's House. It is also conveniently located near an old shrine. In addition , the owner is very supportive and accomodating.

owner was extremely hospitable, offered us a ride to the station every day, bicycles were comfortable, equipped with child chairs, antique interior is spectacular
