“Authentic japanese experience”
11 Apr 2025
You'll need stomach to eat the whole dinner here. The dinner and breakfast is great, has variety a it's an authentic japanese culinary experience.

“Ryokan style hotel, good facilities, not for vegetarian travellers”
07 Apr 2025
A good location for a more traditional Ryokan stay, although quite large hotel. The one downside (and they were very clear before we booked) is they do not cater for vegetarian or other dietary requirements, we were not looking for a refund as we ate elsewhere in the end, but it’s a shame as a lot of food ends up going to waste.

“A rave review for a restful Ryokan!”

An absolutely lovely experience, with charming staff, a superb room and facilities, and phenomenal views in either direction - but if you ask me, you owe it to yourself to choose a room with a view of the majestic Mount Fuji. Though this may depend on the time of year: it was spectacularly snow-capped in early April. I found the futon on tatami mats to be less comfortable than a good mattress, but not particularly uncomfortable either. I suspect it's a matter of getting used to it, as I fell asleep more easily on the second night. It was perfectly acceptable, and part of the traditional Ryokan experience I wanted from my visit. The set meals use seasonal and local specialities. Be warned that if you're not into seafood, you may get more than you would wish. This was the case for me, as my second dinner and second breakfast were both predominantly fish and shellfish, the latter of which I do not typically enjoy. However I resolved to eat everything set in front of me as the point of my visit was to embrace a traditional Ryokan experience, not to reject it. I even ate the grilled sea snail (not bad!) and, more daunting still, sea snail sashimi (tastes okay but very chewy)! I was surprised not only that I could eat it all but I actually enjoyed a lot of it. Must be in the preparation - kudos to the chefs! There is a lot to do in the area, which is served by multiple tour buses. The green line has a stop right outside Maruei, and you can use it to connect to other lines if need be. 1 and 2 day passes can be purchased online and displayed to the driver as you exit a bus. Plan your desired stops and optimal route in advance, but be conservative with your estimates and avoid my mistake: be sure to get an early start. The last buses run at 5 pm and there is only a bus every 60 minutes or, later in the day, every two hours. Additionally, in my experience, every bus I got on was at least 10 minutes later than it was scheduled.

Lovely staff in a very nice hotel. Onsen with mt Fuji view was a particular highlight. The meals were also amazing, and very big and filling!

This is very traditional hotel. We really liked rooms and enjoyed a lot dinner and breakfast there. Very friendly staff. Cool amenities like clothes and bath stuff.

“The quintessential Japanese cultural experience with "bucket list views"!”
26 Mar 2025
From the moment we arrived, service was impeccable. A warm greeting, matcha and a treat during checkin, luggage assistance and a full explanation of what to anticipate. Our room was very traditional and the view spectacular. We were on the lake which was peaceful and stunning both daytime and nighttime. It was our first time experiencing an onsen and we felt comfortable and safe. The external onsen was incredible, Mt. Fuji greeting us in the morning, it was so amazing. The view from the rooftop was breathtaking. Our meal was also a highlight, dinner in particular which was served in our room. The service, presentation and quality of each course exceeded our expectation and was an experience in itself. The location was lovely, we took a walk around the lake and felt we got the best of both worlds ie: close to the central area but in a quiet, lakeside area with incredible views. Thank you!
