Overall an unforgettable highlight of travelling in Nicaragua. Margarita and Manuel were so welcoming and helpful (sharing accurate information about onward public transport, for example). We took a day boat tour into the Indio-Maiz reserve which was wonderful: Manuel is an exceptional guide, with sharp eyes and a wealth of knowledge about plants, wildlife and local communities. Tasty breakfast provided, other meals can be arranged, lovely riverside views, exceptionally clean, solar powered with necessary amenities for a comfortable stay, like aircon... a top experience!

Luna del Rio is a gorgeous ecolodge with a stunning view of the San Juan river. Our room was very comfortable with a clean bathroom, a good shower and a lovely balcony too. The breakfast was delicious! Marga and Manuel were incredibly kind and helpful hosts and we felt so welcomed, it was lovely getting to know their family! We would highly recommend the full day guided tour of the Indio Maiz reserve. We saw all kinds of wildlife and spent an amazing day with our guide Denis. El Castillo itself is a beautiful town and the hotel is well located a short walk from the ferry port. Can’t recommend this place enough and wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks so much Marga and Manuel :)

Lovely wooden house right on the water with the rapids lulling you to sleep. Very kind staff. Amazing breakfast, it was no problem to get our breakfast at 6. El Castillo itself is soooooo scenic. One of my favorite places in central america. Definitely take your time here.
