We booked a deluxe king room, but it was underwhelming. The carpet was stained and the room just needed some TLC. There was a very strong smell of stale cigarette smoke - we could only suggest that this was coming from an outdoor terrace located beside our room. The terrace was not open to customers, but the smell of smoke was in the air con system and was more pronounced when we increased the fan. All in all, a very underwhelming stay. We have stayed at the hotels in the past, so this was a disappointing return.

Beautiful room with a balcony Swimming pool, gym Bar 27: Salad with mixed leaves, beetroot, feta cheese and crunchy hazelnuts and walnuts was truly delicious with a generous amount of leaves. Celery soup was amazing too. We really enjoyed dinner as well, which was served in a private dining room as the Saddle room was closed for refurbishment. Excellent food and a special atmosphere with real candlelight ! It was heartwarming that a few staff remembered us, even though it’s been 4 months since our last stay.

I loved our room and the view looking onto Stephens Green. The room was very comforable, clean and warm. I liked the dining room on the first floor for breakfast the following morning but was disappointed that it was a buffet service as this is a five star hotel and there must have been 5 - 7 staff members walking around with little to do. I was disappointed with the Continental Breakfast as the pastries were very dry and there was only one very small cup of tea from the medium teapot that was placed on my table and I had to keep asking for another pot of tea which took quite some time to delived to our table. My friend looked at the cooked buffet and was agast again at the quality of the hot food. We had dinner the previous evening in the bar as the main dining hall was closed for renovation. The meal I had was Fish and Chips and again was disappointed with that stardard of this dish. The chips were dry and the portion was very small. I expected better from the Shelbourne.
