Hostel Overview

Big Blue Backpackers is located in Green Point and within 10 minutes walk from the famous V&A Waterfront. The Victorian mansion offers free WiFi connection, and it has an outdoor swimming pool.
The lodge features dormitory rooms with a shared bathroom, and private rooms with a private bathroom. The rooms are bright and simply furnished with wooden floors.
There is a bar at the lodge. A number of restaurants serving a range of different cuisines can be found within 1 km from the property.
The front desk at Big Blue Backpackers is open 24-hours a day, and a tour desk is available for guests to use when planning their outings.

The room we stayed in was basic but extremely clean. We were close to the pool and the bar but there was no noise from residents even though it was a Saturday night. Single female plus young daughter and never felt scared walking from main road to the residence- lots of visible security. Staff were very friendly and always present. Bed was very comfy and wifi was great. I can appreciate that not everyone likes the “homey” atmosphere- with long term residents hanging out or the dogs on the couches - but that added to the appeal for us; we felt super comfy. Private rooms were dead quiet and relaxing.

This place will very easily feel like your second home - but your privacy is undisturbed. It's easy to meet people in one of the many different common rooms. The owners would also join if they have the time. Very social and open. Also they take care of things immediately. Feels very safe, security measures are taken seriously and the neighborhood is also safe (compared to other areas of Capetown).

From the moment I arrived, I felt right at home. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, perfect for travelers who want a cozy and relaxed vibe. One of the highlights of my stay was the adorable dogs that live here! They are absolute sweethearts—super friendly and laid-back.

I had booked 10 nights at Big Blue Backpackers but I ended up extending for longer because I like the place alot. It is in a quiet part of Greenpoint but you still have just 1 minut walk to restaurants etc. It is in a walkable distance to the Waterfront and to the center of town as well. My room is nice and have what I need - a bed, a table and a chair and a small closet. All the shared facilities are cleaned throughout the day. The other guests are a mix of travellers and people staying longterm. Personally I like this kind of mix as it gives you interaction both with other travellers and locals. All the staff are super kind and very helpful and you feel very welcomed. If I go back to Cape Town I will definitely stay at Big Blue Backpackers again.
