Please be aware that The Jack Backpackers is a licensed venue. Live entertainment can be heard in the beer garden from 6pm until 2am, mainly on weekends.
Please also note that The Jack Backpackers is a international Youth Hostel and guests are required to show an International passport and Credit card on arrival for all dorm style rooms booked.
Private rooms are available for non internationals guests with Valid IDs.
All Dorms are exclusively available for International guests.
Please note that there is a surcharge of minimum 1.40% when paying with Eftpos.

The Jack is a popular party spot in Cairns, great for meeting backpackers from Europe, Japan, and beyond. Social vibe is strong, but weekends can be tough — loud music and heavy bass from events make it hard to sleep. Not ideal if you have early morning plans, but perfect if you're here to party or short term stay.

The location is amazing and very central. We loved the fridge in the room. Bathrooms and showers are shared between girls and boys (it’d be great if there were separate toilets) but the rest of the hostal is amazing!

The room and bathroom were always clean, even when there were people with long hair in the room who left it everywhere – by the next day, it was always gone, the floor was swept, and there was a fresh bath mat again. 👌 Especially the cleaner and bartender Mara will stay in my memory in a positive way. Her room was next to mine, and she was always helpful – especially when I once again couldn’t unlock my door. 😅 Super kind and caring, even at night! :) I chose this hostel because it has the perfect location for travelers with a heavy backpack—just a 5-minute walk to the bus and train station. And without luggage, you can quickly get to the Esplanade, where you’ll find many shops, the harbor, and the lagoon.

You get what you pay for plus location, The staff are friendly and helpful the location is central to everything you need. Only a short walk to the Esplanade or Cairns central.

Honestly, for the price it was amazing! Staff were helpful and welcoming. The rooms were nice and clean, beds really comfy and the air conditioning was amazing. Would definitely stay there again when I go to Cairns.

They had a nice launch room with Netflix on the tv and the location is walking distance to every good spot you want to see in Cairns :-)
