The owners are really helpful and take care of you. Location near the river is great and quiet. Also the garden is beautiful and well kept. The whole property has a nice, colourful jungle style.

Excellent location near the river, pleasant helpful staff and owner, they helped me with transportation to my next destination. The jungle trip was also great. We saw orangutans.

Place is a bit of heaven on earth. Felt like home at the first moment. Jhonny and Kela are amazing hosts, they make sure you feel good trough your stay. Facilities aren't modern but there is all you need! I loved the place, hope to get there again!

Our holiday at Lucky Bamboo was amazing. The huts are neat, cosy and really in the middle of the jungle. Of course it is primitive but that was also our goal. We wanted the optimal jungle experience and you really find that at Lucky Bamboo. Finally the staff was excellent!! They really arrange everything for you what you want! Really 100 points for the crew!! We even could use their washing machine to was our dirty clothes after jungle walk.

If you are looking for a luxurious 4 or 5 star hotel experience and buffet breakfast with all the trimmings but without a real welcome feeling, do not book this accommodation. BUT If you want to stay in a budget bungalow in a very family environment where the family also lives, then I can absolutely recommend this small hotel (bungalows). Owner Jhonny is very concerned with the well-being of his guests and the rest of the people you see there are also very friendly and helpful. The small garden is also very well maintained so you will not see any plastic lying around. Everything you ask Jhonny is arranged and you can assume that it is ok, such as a very good guide and helper (Rasta and Pandy) for the jungle trekking. He also responds very quickly if you send him a message. The points for improvement are perhaps to empty the bin in the bungalow every 2 days (also toilet paper in it) and then also provide a clean towel. I am sure that if you ask this it will happen immediately but I think that as a guest you should not have to ask this. Breakfast is simple, just ask for something simple like banana pancake with chocolate sauce but do not expect an extensive buffet, that is not possible for the price you pay for the night. Wifi is very good. Also important: you are on the quiet side of the river where no motorized traffic can come but still only a 5 minute walk from the many restaurants on the other side (via the suspension bridge). What is incorrect in the room description on Booking.com is that there would be a minibar in the room but you can get cold drinks there. This place is an absolute must for the budget traveler.

We had a great experience at lucky bamboo and with Johnny. He made us feel welcome in the jungle and organised a great jungle tour with our guide Mershy who was really knowledgeable and helpful. We saw organutans, Thomas monkeys and white gibbons! Truly unforgettable experience.

Perfect family run stay in Bukit Lawang. Perfect location next to the river and a beautiful garden. The 5 rooms are basic, especially shower and toilet but that is part of the charm (at least to us).Who needs hot water next to the jungle?!! Staff and location perfect, everybody is super friendly and helpful. We had laundry done and costs were ‘whatever you want to pay for it’. They organise trekkings, trips, whatever you want. Out trip was great, nice guides, easily adapting to what we wanted and were able to do.

Jhonny and his crew and family were amazing. From the first moment you feel part of the jungle family. And the location was perfect, royal bungalows at the edge of bukit lawan, sandwiched between the jungle and the river. It’s so perfect even a mama orang utan came to check it out. There’s monkeys on the roofs in the afternoon, its amazing! Look nu further!!
