Was surprised with how nice it was for a relatively low price (for NYC). The man who greeted us and gave the tour was very friendly and nice. The room was big and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms are shared but it was not a problem for us as there are multiple bathrooms (not all have showers tho so had to wait for the shower once but who cares). The area is really nice and well-connected to the rest of the city. The fridge was always fully stocked with great vegan products. In general, we really enjoyed our stay and thought it was great value for the money.

The Illumination guest house is truly a home away from home. The building is a fine example of a Brooklyn brownstone and has many of the original authentic features. This is not an impersonal, bland boarding house. The place is full of character and even a little quirky, with a relaxing atmosphere. There are two communal kitchens, so it is possible to cater for yourself. There is food provided, as well as all the utensils you would expect. The rooms are clean, bright and comfortable. There is a small terrace outside where you can sit and relax. The staff were lovely. Nothing was too much bother. Internet was great too. Don't expect a slick, modern, boring room. Enjoy the experience of something out of the ordinary.

The location is excellent and staff so friendly. I totally don’t understand the comments of some customers. I am traveling a lot all over the world and the atmosphere, security and friendliness was really excellent. Of course it is not a 5 Star Hotel and has it’s Brooklyn charm which is so nice. Totally recommend to go to this place.

We really enjoyed our experience at the Illumination Bed & Breakfast. We felt like home. Near to the subway and bus stations. Safe zone. Clean bathroom and comfortable rooms. We would go back 🙂

Nice way to stay in NY on a tight budget. Quiet and charming neighborhood. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean enough and we felt safe and slept well. Located close to a subway station and it only took about 30 minutes to travel to Manhattan.

- Location close to subway. - Large room with two beds - Old, but maintained interior giving it charm - Everything was provided. Adapters for foreigners, all kinds of devices for in the badroom, books et cetera free of use.

If you are looking for a house with soul, you have come to the right place. We spent one week here with my mom and we will remember it for a long time. We really appreciate George's care, the delicious vegan food, the local coffee, the amazing organic cosmetics he offers his guests, you will really feel at home here soon. We really liked the community way George offers his house, he himself provides his guests with a lot of things for free and freely, but he emphasizes their responsibility towards the common areas and other guests, which is really great. Of course the house has its age and its associated minor ailments, such as creaky floors and doors, shared bathroom, but these are all part of the overall authentic Brooklyn experience :-)

Nice bed & breakfast, nice breakfast included, very quiet street, we could sleep with thé window opened, no cars during thé night. shared bathroom but no problem as there are des guests very nice welecome from the owner subway at 5 mns we will come back!
