Elise “I’m so glad I decided to stay at Good Karma Homestay instead of at a hotel.”
I must have good karma, because I feel lucky to have had the experiences I did during my stay in the village with the Bishwokarma family. I found that homestay food is far superior to hotel food. Their milk tea far surpasses other milk tea I’ve had in Nepal because they use milk fresh from their water buffalo. I picked green beans and okra from their garden which became part of our traditional food called dahl-bhat. If you want meat, they will butcher a chicken. They accommodated my minimal tolerance for spicy food. My hosts seemed to know everyone in the village which made me feel welcome and safe as we toured around Thakurdwara. In addition to the farm animals, I got to see elephants at the elephant stable and deer and monkeys in Bardia National Park! I was pleased to find that my private room had a western ceiling, mattress, and toilet, making my stay comfortable. The Bishwokarmas made feel like part of the family. I highly recommend you meet them too.
