NH Gran Hotel Casino de Extremadura is next to the Guadiana River, 10 minutes’ walk from Badajoz city centre and Alcazaba Fortress. It offers free WiFi and houses the Gran Casino de Extremadura.

When we arrived, first of all, I hadn't realised it was a 5 star hotel. Then we were told we were being upgraded. The chap at reception was excellent, so friendly and helpful, and the bearer of good news too obviously. Our room was superb, and, later, after coming back from an evening in the lovely Plaza Alta, he gave us a voucher for free drinks in the casino. So that was a bit of an experience too. We didn't do any gambling of course, but interesting to watch for a bit. The breakfast room has superb views towards the 'old town' on the other side of the river, and breakfast was fine. And to top it all, Badajoz itself is a lovely city. We were only staying there as it is a stopping off point for getting to Portugal by train. Incredibly there are only 2 entrance and exit points by train to and from Portugal, each with only 2 trains a day. Badajoz to Entroncamento is on, the other is Porto to Vigo. And the 2 trains from Badajoz are one coach diesel units.

We’ve stayed here on multiple occasions en-route to Portugal. The hotel is ideally placed in the historic and beautiful city of Badajoz. The rooms are superb and the staff are excellent

There was parking underneath the hotel, which was 16€ perfect for us. Ideal stopover hotel on the way to Portugal.

Location is perfect to walk into the city centre over the "puente de palmas". Parking at the hotel is easy, rooms and bathrooms are very spacious.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and we loved the city itself also. The staff were very professional and helpful. We arrived early, but it was no problem to check in and were also given an upgrade. We would certainly return to this hotel and look forward to returning to Badajoz.
