I've stayed at this backpackers several times, and it ticks the boxes well for me. The mattress is comfortable, linen is clean. I felt very safe. I also had a couple of issues during the stay where I arrived back after midnight and my bag was locked in the luggage area, the owner kindly came down very early the next morning (5:20am) to open up the luggage area so that I could get my bag. I also forgot to drop off the key, but I put it on a courier, the staff were very understanding about this situation.

Surf N Snow Backpackers is in the centre of the Auckland CBD, close to the Sky Tower & a short walk away from the ferry quay, buses & train & food outlets & retail shops. Location! Room mates were friendly & trustworthy. I liked the lift. Other backpackers in the venue were easy to talk to - unlike being in a "5 star" complex. I could vacate the premises at a very early hour (after putting the key in the box) to catch an early 6.20am intl. flight. The kitchen had all necessary cooking items to make meals - unlike a "posh" hotel where you have a hot water jug, microwave & bar fridge & you are coerced to go to visit a classy restaurant at great expense. Great value for money.

For value and location you cannot beat this place. I always stay here when I’m in Auckland. (The Skytower photo is taken from my bedroom window!) *It’s very close to the Intercity bus stop and connecting buses to the airport. *The beautiful waterfront is just a stroll away. *Queens St is just a couple of minutes away with plenty of shops, bars and eating places. *The beds are comfortable.

Some rooms are more quiet than others. I heard traffic light voices from some rooms. And some rooms are more dark during night. For solo travellers 105 was my favourite. 1st floor has the best women shower. 3rd floor only one women shower.

I love coming here, because of the friendly staff and the consistency with their service. Even though the facilities are pretty average, you get really good deals here and can stay in a dorm for a very very cheap price. So it balances everything out, if you don't mind :)
