It was a lovely unique experience to stay in a medieval castle set in beautiful grounds. The accommodation really helped to bring the past to life and it was a great experience for the kids to have stayed over in a real castle! We explored the grounds on the second day and they were peaceful and beautiful.

The cottages were lovely and having breakfast in a 15th centuary dining hall with panelled timber walls made breakfast extra special. The climb and view from the Norman keep was amazing. We were made to feel very welcome.

This is a unique property from scope. You really are staying in a castle. You want to pass banqueting halls? Upground staircases. Along creaking corridors to your room. The view from my room was of The old Castle Keep. The castle is at the end of the road in Appleby, and it's easy to walk down through the grounds and into the town. If you just passing through, it's worth taking half an hour to do this as The town is very nice.

we recieved a warm welcome and check in , Peter showed us around and told us a little history whilst taking us to our room our room was beautiful and like stepping back in time with all the tapestry on the walls the old furniture and the feeling of grandeur a lovely 4 poster bed with crisp white sheets and fluffy white towels , we went out for a pint into appleby and then returned to change for dinner and for me this was my favourite part the dining room is absolutely beautiful with candles and tables all set Christmas wreaths on the walls and Peter playing music on the keyboard the atmosphere was truely wonderful and the food was delicious and a very high standard the service was attentive and the owner was brilliant serving and such a l9vely lady personally visiting every table to talk to all guests this made us feel really welcome and what a lovely lady she is , great conversation, Our compliments to the chef as my partner has his steak blue and not a lot of chefs will do that he said it was perfect and my chicken in mushroom sauce was delicious the potatoes that came with it and vegetables all yummy. Finally our sleep ... WOW we both slept like babies all night on an extremely windy and rainy night we didn't hear a thing . We would love to return again and are going home very happy after a truely 1 of a kind stay. Well done to all concerned in the running of this lovely historic hotel .

Wonderful night with in a castle with lovely dining time with delicious food cooked on order by castle chef Creag (Thanks). Glad to stay in this property we really enjoyed and definately recomend..
