I think the reason why reviews of this hotel vary so much comes down to expectations of what a 'hotel' will offer and the room you choose and are provided with - let me explain .... It's important to realise that the hotel in an older historic building- possibly an 1800's apartment building. This means the steps are steep (but there is a lift), the bathroom and toilet are small (but are clean and have plentiful hot water and shampoos etc). We booked 3 rooms. One twin, one double and one spacious double. The twin was on the lower floor and was a bit gloomy and small - we upgraded this room to a double on the third floor. The double rooms were small but comfortable, but to get a bigger room with more amenities like small fridge you need to choose a spacious double. The beds were very comfortable. The heating and cooling system was a bit hard to manage, but we worked it out in the end. The highlights were that the location was perfect for visiting the galleries, canal cruises, catching a tram and eating at small neighbourhood restaurants and cafes (not a noisy touristy area but close to everything). And the staff were very friendly and helpful and we did not experience any rudeness mentioned in some other reviews. There was a simple breakfast on offer in the front reception area that was ideal for a quick simple meal before an early flight, but there is not a breakfast room that some people might expect in a hotel.

The property was in a good location, close to the museum area and nightlife. It was very easily walkable and easy to catch the tram. The hotel had good clean rooms.

The staff were some of the friendliest and helpful that I have ever encountered in a hotel. I liked the free coffee in the spacious reception. For a small supplement, my friend and I were both able to upgrade our rooms. Location is good near many of the city's famous museums and opposite the entrance to the Vondelpark. Enjoyed my stay.

Location fabulous for the Museumplein including Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. Close to trams to get to Dam Square and 9 streets . Canal cruise start point just at end of street and across the road from Vondel Park. Good restaurants around. Cody foyer and front desk available 24/7 and very helpful

This was our last stay in our europe trip and it was amazing! And we ended with the best, Perfect location! Comfy bed! Staff were extremely nice and helpful! Would definitely stay again!
